JMB regional head arrested from Gazipur

JMBMNA National Desk: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Thursday said it had arrested four suspected militants, including a top regional head of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB), from Tongi of Gazipur.

RAB raid a flat in an apartment building in the industrial town of Tongi and detained four members of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB).

“Among them was Mahmudul Hasan, the southern regional head of the JMB. He is a top militant trainer,” RAB spokesman Mufti Mahmud Khan told reporters.

Law enforcement agency recuperated hand-made bombs and bomb-making ingredients from the house, indicating the militants “were planning to carry out an act of sabotage,” he said.

However, the government has accused JMB for the attack in Gulshan. At least 28 people, including 17 foreigners, three Bangladeshis, six attackers and two senior police officials were killed as terrorists attacked Holey Artisan Bakery restaurant at the city’s Gulshan diplomatic zone on July 1.

The IS claimed responsibility for the Gulshan attack. But law enforcement agency said that authorities were inspecting whether the Gulshan attackers had any global networks.

Hasan, the detained leader, trained militants were responsible for the murder of a police constable and deadly bomb attack at the nation’s most respected Shiite shrine in Dhaka late last year, Khan added.

Meanwhile, RAB on Tuesday said that it has recognized four suspects including one woman and three men from CCTV footage who might have been linked in the Holey Artisan Bakery attack.

Earlier in 12 May, RAB claimed it detained JMB Dhaka district chief Abdul Baten alias Khairul Islam alias Mamunul Haque, 28-year-old, and three of his accomplices during separate raids in Dhaka’s Khilgaon and Fakirarpul areas.

The three others have been identified as Monir Molla, 29, Md Golam Kibria alias ‘Akter’, 62, and Md Rumman Khan, 27.

A weapon, ammunition, petrol bomb, explosives, improvised explosive devices (IED) and jihadi literature were also found on them, he added.
