MNA Editorial Desk: Neo-Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (Neo-JMB) leader Nurul Islam Marzan, and Saddam Hossain, an accused murderer of several people including Japanese citizen Kunio Hoshi, have been killed in a gunfight with the police.
The incident took place at Beribadh area of Mohammadpur around 3:00am. Monirul Islam, chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed the news to media.
Police also recovered a pistol, three rounds of bullets, a knife and a motorbike from the spot.
“One is identified as Marzan and another is Saddam Hossain, an accused neo JMB member,” Monirul said.
Nurul Islam Marzan is the son of Nizam Uddin, a hosiery worker at Hemayetpur’s Afuria village in Pabna.
After completing school at Pabna Alia Madrasa, he got admitted to Chittagong University. His father confirmed his identity after police published his name and photo in August last year following the July attack.
Saddam hails from Kurhigram and is the son of Taju Alam alias Alam Jola of Char Bidyananda under Kurhigram’s Rajarhat Upazila.
Saddam was wanted for at least ten murder cases. He was named in the charge sheet submitted over the murder of sexagenarian Kunio Hoshi. The Japanese was shot dead in a village of Rangpur’s Kaunia Upazila on Oct 3, 2015.
