No bar to deduct 5 marks in medical test

MNA Education Desk: The Supreme Court has cleared way for government to deduct five marks from second time medical admission seekers.

The five-member regular bench of Appellate Division, led by acting Chief Justice Abdul Wahhab Miah on Wednesday passed the order after hearing the appeal filed by the state seeking a stay order on High Court order.

Earlier on September 12, the High Court stayed an order on the government’s decision to deduct five marks for second time medical admission seekers.

The Health Department issued a notice calling for admissions to the MBBS program for the 2017-18 academic year on Aug 21. The notice mentioned that 5 points would be deducted from any examinee taking the MBBS and BDS admission exams for the second time.

Supreme Court Advocate Yunus Ali Akhand petitioned for a removal of the BMDC rule, claiming it was illegal.
