MNA Education Desk: The government has appointed professor Md Akhtaruzzaman as the acting vice-chancellor of Dhaka University.
President Abdul Hamid, also chancellor of the university, made the appointment on Monday, says a gazette notification of the education ministry.
Prof Akhtaruzzaman is replacing AAMS Arefin Siddique as Arefin’s tenure ended on 24 August.
According to Dhaka university authorities, Akhtaruzzaman stood first in both BA (honours) and masters in the Islamic History and Culture department of Dhaka University.
He, then, earned a post-graduate diploma in Persian Language (DU) and PhD in History from Aligarh, India.
The acting VC was a Fulbright scholar of Boston College, USA; and British Council’s visiting scholar of the University of Birmingham, UK.
Akhtaruzzaman joined as a lecturer in the Dhaka University’s department of Islamic History and Culture department in 1990. He became the dean faculty of arts between 2014 and 2016.
He was a chairman of the department from 2008 to 2011 and of the Arabic department in 2015.
