Supreme Court rejected Kader Siddique’s appeal

MNA National Desk: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the High Court (HC) order rejecting Krishak Sramik Janata League president Kader Siddique’s plea for participating in the Tangail-4 by-election.

The full bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice SK Sinha, issued the order in the morning.

As per the order of the Appellate Division, Kader Siddique cannot take part in the by-election for Tangail-4 constituency, clearing the way to hold the election, said Election Commission (EC) lawyer Barrister M Yasin Khan.

After the resignation of Awami League MP of Tangail-4 Abdul Latif Siddique on September 1, 2015, the Election Commission fixed November 10, 2015 for holding the by-polls.

However a returning officer on October 13, 2015 cancelled the nomination paper of Kader Siddique on loan default charges.

Later Kader appealed with the Election Commission against the decision but was rejected on October 18, 2015.

Later on February 25, 2016, he filed a leave-to-appeal petition with the SC against the High Court. On 15th March, 2016, the SC Appellate Division had allowed him to file the appeal petition.
