Six-member search committee formed for EC re-formation

MNA Editorial Desk: President Abdul Hamid has formed a six-member search committee to find potential candidates for manning the next Election Commission, said President Abdul Hamid’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin.

A cabinet official said the cabinet division has received a letter from Bangabhaban in this connection. He said the authorities are working to issue a notification in view of the letter.

The cabinet division, which will be in the secretarial role for the search committee, will soon announce the committee through a gazette notification, the press secretary said.

A reliable said the six-member body will be led by an Appellate Division Justice, while the other members of the committee will be Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairman Dr. Mohammad Sadiq, Dhaka University Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam, Chittagong University Professor Shirin Akhter, Comptroller and Auditor General Masud Ahmed, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmud.

However, the tenure of Election Commission led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed will come to an end in February.
