Arrest warrants issued against BNP’s 34 leaders, activists

MNA Editorial Desk: A Dhaka court on Thursday issued arrest warrants against of 35 BNP leaders and activists in a case relating to arson of a vehicle during the opposition’s blockade in Dhaka’s Paltan area in January 2015.

Metropolitan Session Judge Quamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order after accepting the charge sheet against 47 leaders and activists of BNP.

The court also asked the officer‐in‐charge concerned to submit a progress report on it on 5 April.

BNP leaders Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Barkatullah Bulu, Selima Rahman, Maruf Kamal Khan, Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu and Azizul Bari Helal were among the 34 accused.

The party’s senior leader and former minister MK Anwar and the BNP chairperson’s adviser and journalist leader Shaukat Mahmood are among those who have secured bail in the case.
