Abdullah Abu Sayeed’s birth anniv today

MNA Feature Desk: Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed, a versatile writer- television presenter, stepped into the 80th year today.

He is mainly an educationist and literary. He is also a television presenter, organizer, and activist. Creating `Bishwo Shahitto Kendro` that promotes the study of literature, reading habits and a progressive idea is his greatest achievement. Through this center, he is constantly working to deliver the hidden light to the people.

Today is his 79th birth anniversary. He was born on July 25, 1939, in Park Circus, Kolkata. His paternal home was in Kamargati village under Kachua thana of Bagerhat district.

As a teacher, Abdullah Abu Sayeed`s popularity touched the highest peak. His reputation as a professor is legendary. He started his teaching career in 1961, as a part-time lecturer at Munshiganj`s Horgonga College. Later he taught at Sylhet Women`s College, Rajshahi College, and Dhaka Intermediate Technical College. He later joined Dhaka College. In Dhaka College, he spent his golden years of teaching life.

Abdullah Abu Sayeed led the literary movement of Bangladesh in the sixties. He edited literary magazine “Kontoshore” in the 60s which played a crucial role in promoting new trend in Bangladeshi literature.

Almost all aspects of the personality of Abdullah Abu Sayeed have been coordinated by his organizing existence of the `Bishwa Sahitya Kendra`. He felt that in order to build a prosperous Bangladesh, we need every citizen with high mindset. With the prospect of building enlightened people, he founded the Bishwa Sahitya Kendra in 1978.

This great mentor of many has got many awards. Among them, Ramon Magsaysay Award (2004), Ekushey Padak (2005) for the contribution of education, Bangla Academy Literary Award (2012) for the essay, Star Lifetime Award on Education (2016) are the notable ones.
