Nine terrorists killed at Kalyanpur

KalyanpurMNA Editorial Desk: Nine terrorists have been killed in an operation of law enforcement agencies at Kalyanpur of Dhaka city. The law enforcers conducted an operation at the hideout of the terrorists, at a building named ‘Jahaz Building’ on the road 5 near the Kalyanpur Bus stand. Police confirmed that, nine terrorists were killed in the operation.

The operation was conducted from 5:51am to 6:51am in the morning though the process started around 12am of last night. It was reported that, few members of the law enforcement agencies were injured during this operation.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Shahidul Hoque conducted a visit at the place of the incident at around 8am this morning. He told that, the killed terrorists were members of banned terrorist organization Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). He also added that, these terrorists were making a plan of a large scale massacre like Gulshan Attack from that house.

According to the statement of Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Sheikh Maruf Hasan, the law enforcement agencies conducted the operation, named ‘Operation Storm 26’, for one hour. Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Detective Branch (DB) of Police, rescue team of Fire Service and bomb disposal team joined Police in this operation.

Police informed that, as a part of ongoing drive to establish law and order at different parts of the country, the police went to that six-storied building named ‘Jahaz Building’ at around 12am of Monday night. As soon as they reached the third floor, two persons started to shoot and throw explosives at the police while uttering the words “Allah-u-Akbar”.

Police immediately responded by counter shooting, which left one person named Hasan shot. Police claimed that, Hasan is a terrorist. He was immediately sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at night.

During the first phase, exchange of firing took place between the police and the terrorists till 1:30pm at the night. Receiving the information of the fight taking place at that building of Kalyanpur, SWAT, RAB and DB went to the place of incident. Later another exchange of firing took place at around 3:30am of the night.

Then the police started the operation from 5:51am in the morning. Police informed that, the terrorists tried to escape opening the door at a stage. They were shooting at the police while making that escape attempt. Police also kept counter firing on the terrorists and during that exchange of fire, nine terrorists were killed.

The IGP of Police, Shahidul Hoque went to the place of incident at around 8am in the morning and he informed that, one has been detained and the killed terrorists are members of banned terrorist group ‘JMB’. Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Md. Asaduzzaman Miah also visited the place of incident.

The police cordoned the area during the operation and the movements of vehicles were halted. According to the last information, the police is conducting ‘search’ on that building.

After the Gulshan Attack, this is the incident with second most lives lost in a occurrence related to terrorism. This again calls for combined effort to fight terrorism as well as to be more aware of incidents taking place around us.
