115th death anniversary of Swami Vivekananda

MNA Feature Desk: July 4, 1902, marks the death anniversary of the great Hindu philosopher, Swami Vivekananda. On the occasion of his 115th death anniversary, individuals from all strata of society remember the great contributions of the Indian Hindu monk.

Swami Vivekananda born as Narendranath Datta is touted to be a major contributor behind fundamental revolutions such as raising interfaith awareness, the revival of Hinduism in the country, introducing the concept of Vedanta and Yoga to the West and nationalism in the country.

Swami Vivekananda was born on January 12, 1863, in an aristocratic Bengali family of Calcutta. The preacher of the Vedanta philosophies in the West was inclined towards spirituality from an early age.

Narendranath Datta adopted the name of Swami Vivekananda after becoming a monk and living a life of a spiritualist. He was a chief disciple of the 19th-century Indian mystic Ramakrishna and later founded the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission.

The man who died at a young age of 39 won over hearts and minds with his impactful speech and his evergreen quotes remain as popular as ever. His speech delivered at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893, when he introduced the Hinduism continues to be one of the most iconic ones.

Political leaders and personalities from various fields paid tribute to Swami Vivekananda and remembered him on his death anniversary. His life and works were a great influence on the youth in the past and continues to serve as an ideal example in the present day.
